Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48

Originally, a serenade wasn’t today’s caricature of a song performed for the lady love in her balcony. It started out more broadly as a piece of music performed in the presence of a loved one or a dignitary with the purpose of bringing them honor.

How fitting it is, then, that we should conclude our quarantine concert series with a serenade. Here we honor all who have worked countless hours to help slow the spread, lost family and friends, or lost progress and missed opportunities over the past year.

In short, we honor each and every member of our community.

Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for your fighting spirit. Thank you for sticking with us as we learned how to keep bringing music to the Illinois Valley through the use of technology. We have grown through it all, and we are grateful for your support.

With that in mind, please enjoy the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra Chamber Strings’ performance of Tchaikovky’s Serenade for Strings, conducted by Daniel Sommerville at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Peru.
