Belated Beethoven Birthday Bash, featuring Sherry Rubins

On Saturday, October 30, Sherry Rubins joined the IVSO in performing Milhaud’s Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone and Orchestra.

ABOUT SHERRY

Sherry Rubins, a native of LaSalle, Illinois, is a distinguished senior lecturer and coordinator of the percussion program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Mrs. Rubins directs the percussion and steel drum ensembles and teaches undergraduate and graduate percussion majors. She is Principal Percussionist/Timpanist with the Mid-Texas Symphony and Principal Percussionist with the Alamo City Opera. In the past she has held the position of acting Principal Timpanist/Percussionist with the San Antonio Symphony. She currently performs as a substitute percussionist with the San Antonio Symphony and presents clinics throughout south Texas and the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association Conferences. She recently presented a session at the first annual Women’s Band Director Symposium in Birmingham, Alabama. Mrs. Rubins is a member of the Board of Directors for the Percussive Arts Society and a member of the Health and Wellness Committee since 2011. She has presented two clinics at the Percussive Arts Society National Conference (PASIC) and her UTSA Percussion Ensemble performed at PASIC 2015 with the Northern Illinois University percussion chair Robert Chappell. She is an artist/educator for Zildjian Cymbals, Remo Percussion, the Yamaha Corporation, and the Vic Firth Company.
