After 60 years of dedicated leadership, IVSO Manager Barbara Lukancic retires

A Farewell Letter from the IVSO Manager

Music has always been a part of my life.

My journey with the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra began as an oboe/English Horn player. Because the IVSO was available to local players, I was able to follow my musical avocation of playing with and working for the orchestra. Serving two different six year terms on the board, which included being Secretary and President, provided an understanding of all that was needed for the orchestra to operate. 

Before developing a problem which caused an end to my playing, I was asked if I would do personnel and agreed to that. Eventually, as duties were added, the title of General Manager/Personnel was assigned. After many years in that position it’s time for me to retire. 

Because of the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra, I’ve had the opportunity to keep my musical interest alive, meet many wonderful talented people, and enjoy watching the conductors and musicians develop their programs.

It’s been a pleasure to have served such a fine organization. The time devoted to support the orchestra has only been accomplished because of an encouraging and supportive husband and an understanding family.

The Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra is the only orchestra within a sixty mile radius. You are encouraged to take advantage and enjoy this great cultural treasure. Please support the orchestra and get involved. You, too, will be thankful you did.
