Hello Friends,
Welcome to the 63rd season of the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Of all of the fine arts, music is the most abstract. Instrumental music is unencumbered by things seen and heard in our natural world. Its rhythms, textures, and harmonies result entirely from human creativity, insight, and artistic vision. With this unique essence, music speaks to us like nothing else. It brings not only enjoyment, but also a deeper inspiration and fulfillment.
Live performance adds yet another human dimension to music, and the IVSO's 2012–13 season will provide you with this full musical experience over an entire range of selections. Music director Lucia Matos has designed an excellent program for the year, culminating with an appearance by long-time friend of the arts in the Illinois Valley Rachel Barton Pine.
Thank you to all of those drawn to support the IVSO. The dedication of everyone involved — our audience, contributors and sponsors, players and music director, as well as all of the individuals who do their part behind the scenes — make the IVSO one of the great collaborative efforts of our area!
Sincerely,
Peter Janssen
IVSO Board President
